Price and Pay to Win

ArcheAge Chronicles costs $29.99 in the US (36,000 won in Korea) in Early Access, a one-time buy-to-play purchase with no subscription, XL Games announced on Oct 21, 2026. It promises no paid shop at the start of Early Access and no pay-to-win items, ever.

ArcheAge Chronicles costs $29.99 in the US and 36,000 won in Korea in Early Access, a one-time purchase with no subscription, Executive Producer Yongjin Ham announced on Oct 21, 2026; XL Games also promises no paid shop at the start of Early Access and no pay-to-win items, ever. In XL Games' video "Early Access Content, Future Plans & Pricing", Ham says ArcheAge Chronicles will be buy to play: "You purchase the game once, and there's no recurring subscription fee required to keep playing", and the Early Access price was set "to keep that initial purchase accessible". You cannot buy it yet: the Early Access date has not been announced, as of Oct 21, 2026, and Ham says more details about the schedule will come "soon". The game itself is on ArcheAge Chronicles.

How much does ArcheAge Chronicles cost?

ArcheAge Chronicles costs $29.99 in the US and 36,000 won in Korea in Early Access. Ham announced the price in a video and Steam post on Oct 21, 2026, two days into the Steam Next Fest demo, after Global Project Manager Don had promised on Sep 18, 2026 to share "the date, the box price, and when you'll actually be able to get your hands on the game" as soon as the team was ready. The price came first; the date did not. Steam still shows only a Wishlist button and no price, as of Oct 21, 2026, and XL Games has not given prices in other currencies. Ham explains the low price as a way to make it "easier to take that first step into Auroria", and says XL Games chose Early Access to hear players' feedback and respond more quickly. For the money, Early Access has three regions of Auroria (Diamond Shores, Gylden Ruins and Astron Plains), each built for more than 10 hours of main quests alone, over 30 hours in all, plus the four classes, dungeons, raids, PvP, housing, crafting, trade and guilds. When Early Access is planned is on Release Date and Early Access.

Is ArcheAge Chronicles free to play?

No. ArcheAge Chronicles is a game you buy, which XL Games calls buy to play. Only the Steam Next Fest demo is free, from Oct 19 to Oct 26, 2026 (Demo). Kakao Games, the publisher until 2026, already described the model to investors in Nov 2024 as package sales, with pay-to-win elements "almost" excluded, as iNews24 reported; XL Games' 2026 wording is firmer.

Is ArcheAge Chronicles pay to win?

XL Games says it never will be. Ham made the promise himself in XL Games' video "The Direction the Devs Are Taking" (Oct 7, 2026), speaking Korean with English subtitles: ArcheAge Chronicles is a buy-to-play package game, and it will never sell items that make you stronger or give you a growth advantage, what players call pay to win. When Early Access starts there will be no paid shop at all, because fun and a stable service come first; if a shop opens later, XL Games will say in advance exactly what it sells and when, and even then it will never sell pay to win. Gamemeca's English report of it quotes him: "no pay-to-win items, ever" and "Character progression and competitive edge should come purely from actually playing the game." Inven Global summed up the video as three promises, one of them "to never sell items that let players buy power". Ham repeated on Oct 20, 2026, in ZDNet Korea, that Early Access will not sell items that help in combat or growth. Progress comes from play: levels mostly from quests and discoveries, trait points from bosses at Raeven's Coilstones (Progression and Traits).

Will there be a cash shop?

Not at the start of Early Access. Ham says a paid shop may open later, announced in advance, and press reports of his video give its focus as extra content, customization and convenience (Inven Global, Massively OP). XL Games has not said when a shop might open or what it would cost, as of Oct 21, 2026; the Oct 21 pricing video does not mention a shop. An MMORPG.com report from Jul 2026 mentioned "optional cosmetics"; Ham's Oct 2026 statement that there will be no paid shop at Early Access is the later word.

Will the price change at full release?

It may. The Steam page's Early Access FAQ says: "The price may change at full release to reflect the additional content and improvements. We'll announce any pricing changes in advance." Early Access is expected to last about 9 to 12 months, and Ham says that between Early Access and full release XL Games plans more life and community content and new regions, with a development roadmap to come around the Early Access launch.

Editions, founder packs and pre-orders

None exist, as of Oct 21, 2026. Ham announced a single Early Access price on Oct 21, 2026, and XL Games has announced no editions, founder packs, pre-orders or subscription, and no store takes pre-orders: Steam, the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store and the Epic Games Store all offer only a Wishlist. The store pages are on Platforms and Crossplay.

Why players ask

The original ArcheAge's Western years made players wary. MeinMMO links the doubt to the predecessor's "Pay2Win past", and creators watch for anything that could become a paid shortcut. Ser Medieval, in his Network Test review (Sep 14, 2026), saw a blacksmith offering to temper equipment and hopes failed tempering can only downgrade gear, never destroy it, because breakable gear could open the door to paid protection in a shop later; he adds that XL Games has said it plans to stay buy to play without pay to win, and that he saw no shop or cosmetics in the test. That is his worry, not an announced system. The original's history, from Trion Worlds to ArcheAge: Unchained, is on ArcheAge Series, and how ArcheAge Chronicles departs from it on Differences From ArcheAge.
