The free ArcheAge Chronicles demo runs on Steam from Oct 19, 10:00 AM to Oct 26, 10:00 AM PDT, 2026 (Oct 20, 2:00 AM to Oct 27, 2:00 AM in Korea), as part of Steam Next Fest, worldwide and with no sign-up. It holds roughly two to three hours of quests around Diamond Shores, all four classes with two weapons each, PvP for the first time in a public build, and a hidden high-level dungeon, the Throne of Hinnon; housing and trade are not in it, and progress does not carry over to Early Access. Azrial's demo guide (Oct 12, 2026) gives the window in UK time, from 6:00 PM on Oct 19 to 5:00 PM on Oct 26 (the UK's clocks go back on Oct 25), and puts it plainly: head to the ArcheAge Chronicles Steam page, click to download the demo, it is free, and "There's no application process or invite needed". What the full game is and when it arrives are on ArcheAge Chronicles and Release Date and Early Access.

Demo start and end times

XL Games gives one official time, 10:00 AM PDT, for both the start (Oct 19) and the end (Oct 26, 2026); every other zone below is converted from it. Ser Medieval reads XL Games' world map in his guide (Oct 18, 2026): 10:00 AM Pacific, 1:00 PM EDT, 6:00 PM BST in London and 1:00 AM Tuesday in Beijing. Europe moves its clocks back on Oct 25, 2026, so the end comes an hour earlier there by the local clock; the United States changes only on Nov 1.

How to get the demo

Open the ArcheAge Chronicles Steam page and click "Download Demo", or go straight to the demo's own page, Steam app 5280930. XL Games' Oct 1, 2026 post: "The demo is free to play, and no registration or application is required." It runs on Windows only (Steam lists no Mac or Linux version) and supports controllers. Steam asks for 100 GB of space on an SSD; the actual download is smaller (MeinMMO measured about 38 GB, and creators saw about 42 GB for the Network Test). The demo's own Steam page lists a higher minimum than the main game, an Intel Core i5-12400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600 with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, against the main game's i5-10400 and RTX 2060 SUPER; both are on PC System Requirements.

What is in the demo

The demo is the game's opening in Diamond Shores, an early region, with all four classes. Azrial explains in his guide that it covers a selection of early content, the opening experience, exploring and learning the combat, so it will not show the endgame, and that all four classes, Warrior, Ranger, Berserker and Mage, are playable with two weapons each. XL Games' Oct 18, 2026 letter puts the quests at "roughly two to three hours" and adds two pieces of content to what the Network Test had: PvP channels and the Throne of Hinnon. There is also gathering and some crafting, such as brewing potions. The classes are on Classes, and first steps on Beginner's Guide.

PvP is open to the public for the first time. Azrial calls it "The big addition this time", since the September test had none. In a normal game the PvP channel opens only after the early part of the story; for the demo, XL Games opened it once you leave the first town and reach the Nui Statue at your next stop, where you switch between a standard channel and a PvP channel. In a PvP channel anyone but your party and guild can attack you. How channels work is on PvP.

The Throne of Hinnon is a high-level dungeon "outside the demo's normal quest progression", Ham wrote on Oct 18, 2026, so it "may be extremely difficult at the level you reach during the demo"; its key is hidden "somewhere that won't be easy to find". Where creators found it is on Throne of Hinnon.

What is not in the demo

Housing and trade are left out, and nothing you do carries over. Azrial lists what not to expect: housing and trade, the two systems many ArcheAge players most want to try, bugs and rough edges the developers warned about, and progress, which "won't carry over into early access". XL Games' own notice says the demo "does not include the full range of content" and that "Progress and save data from the demo will not carry over to the Early Access version." Trade runs and housing come with Early Access (Trade Runs, Housing and Farming). Mounts and sailing are not in the demo and are not confirmed for the game, as of Oct 20, 2026 (Mounts and Sailing). The level cap has not been published.

How long the demo lasts, and how it ends

The quests take about two to three hours, and at the end of the demo area the game sends you back to character select instead of disconnecting you. Ser Medieval sums up XL Games' notes: Diamond Shores is one of three regions planned for Early Access, the west and east parts of it are open, progress does not carry over, and the week holds about two to three hours of questing alongside the dungeon, points of interest and PvP. MeinMMO reached the end after about 140 minutes; Kyunghyang Games took about five hours with side quests.

The demo trailer

XL Games released an "Official Demo Trailer" (64 seconds) on Oct 19, 2026, a cinematic of the opening story rather than gameplay. Its frames show a house burning at night, a man struck down, a dark-haired man who sneers (English subtitles: "Begging would've been wiser."), a smiling blond man with a scarred face, a fall into deep water, the logo, and an end card reading "Play demo now, Oct. 19-26 @ 10 AM Pacific" with the Steam Next Fest mark. XL Games' post calls it a glimpse of the opening story "set in Auroria 50 years after the events of the original ArcheAge" with "hints of a betrayal". The opening scenes are not playable in the demo. Every official video is on Trailers, and the plot so far on Story.

Servers and languages

XL Games runs demo servers in five locations: North America East and West, Europe Central, and Asia East and South, with none in Oceania. Ham's letter lists four languages, English, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, though the demo's Steam data shows only English and Korean (Korean with full audio). Parties can join the same channel, and XL Games added party quest sharing after the Network Test, so friends can play together (Multiplayer and Guilds).

What changed since the Network Test

The demo builds on the Network Test of Sep 12, 2026, a six-hour test for randomly chosen Steam users in the US and Canada that was mainly a server load test. Ham listed the changes on Oct 18, 2026: voice-over and facial animation, both missing from the test, are "now fully implemented"; audio was improved; party members can share quests and join the same channel more reliably; paths and clues in points of interest and dungeons were made clearer, with a guide to how hints are shown; and ladder collision, hit detection, missing translations and shimmering effects were fixed. Gender-locked classes remain in the demo: more gender options are in development but "won't be ready for the Steam Next Fest demo". Before the Network Test, small focus groups had played under NDA by Jul 2025, and 165 testers played 2,006 hours in a Jun 2026 Focus Group Test, XL Games said. The longer history is on Development History.

How the demo was received

XL Games announced that the demo reached No. 1 on Steam Next Fest's Top Demos chart on its first day, and SteamDB recorded an all-time peak of 20,507 players at once, with a 24-hour peak of 20,446 (read Oct 20, 2026). Reviews were mixed: MeinMMO called the combat "action-packed" but "too unpolished and not challenging enough". The full roundup is on Reception and Previews, and the numbers on Steam Player Count.
