Berserker

The Berserker is the heavy class of ArcheAge Chronicles: an Axe with a shield that builds Bleed and has a chain (Reckless Destroyer, Shield Slam, Brutal Crash, Reel In), or a Warhammer that builds Burn and stored Thunder toward Meteor Hammer and Galactic Impact.

The Berserker is the heavy class of ArcheAge Chronicles: it fights with an Axe and shield that builds Bleed and has a chain, or with a Warhammer that builds Burn and stored Thunder toward its biggest strikes, Meteor Hammer and Galactic Impact. MMORPG.com's report of XL Games' class reveal (Sep 28, 2026) names the Axe's skills Reckless Destroyer, Shield Slam, Brutal Crash and Reel In, and the Warhammer's Surging Heat, Thundering Hurl, Meteor Hammer and Galactic Impact. In his class guide of Oct 5, 2026, Azrial says the Berserker is "much more about weight, impact, and controlling the space around you" than the faster classes. Its lore hero is Shyagon, founder of the divine kingdom of Gon. It is one of four Classes.

Axe and shield

The Axe comes with a shield and is built for charging into fights while keeping a strong defense. According to MMORPG.com's report, Reckless Destroyer's axe strikes push enemies back and build their Bleed gauge, Shield Slam knocks enemies back with the shield, Brutal Crash charges into the enemy line and staggers it while you take reduced damage, and Reel In uses a chain; MMORPG.com describes it pulling you across a gap, while Azrial describes it dragging an enemy toward you. Azrial calls the Axe a frontline bruiser rather than a pure damage dealer: its defensive tools are there to let you push into the middle of a fight and stay there.

Warhammer

The Warhammer pushes toward raw damage with slower, committed attacks and the elements of thunder and fire. Surging Heat is a heavy blow followed by a burst of flame that raises the enemy's Burn gauge; Thunder is stored power for more devastating attacks; Thundering Hurl loads that thunder into the hammer and throws it; Meteor Hammer channels a meteor's power into the weapon; and Galactic Impact, the strongest strike, releases all of Meteor Hammer's stored power at once. Azrial noticed the slow combat most on this weapon in the Network Test, but argued that a hammer that size should feel heavier than a Longsword or a Hatchet.

Ser Medieval, after the Network Test on Sep 14, 2026, described the Axe as either bolstering your survival or taking a more aggressive style with follow-up attacks, and the Warhammer as a slow, overwhelming style that maximizes charged attacks or inflicts Burn and shock. He placed the Berserker second among the classes for himself, though he agreed with players who found it the most awkward to learn.

Traits

Each Berserker weapon has its own trait tree: XL Games wrote on Oct 15, 2026 that "every weapon type has its own trait tree", with nodes that boost stats, add skills or change how a skill plays. Trait points come from Raeven's Coilstones, each guarded by a boss, not from levels. See Progression and Traits.

Is the Berserker a tank?

XL Games does not use the word "tank" for any class, as of Oct 20, 2026, and has not described fixed roles. Creators do: FrozenCloud, after the Network Test (Sep 14, 2026), called the Berserker "the tank of the team", with many skills that knock enemies down or back. The Axe's shield, Brutal Crash's reduced damage and Reel In's chain give it the tools of a frontline fighter, but Dungeons are built for parties of up to four that can also be soloed, so no class is required.

The third weapon

XL Games has promised a third weapon for every class but has not named the Berserker's, as of Oct 20, 2026. Creators saw a third weapon on the Network Test character screen, locked, and read it as a Greatshield. Azrial expects it to push the Berserker toward blocking and survivability and asks whether it could make a proper frontline tank for four-player groups; Ser Medieval read blocking abilities, glacier zones and explosive attacks in its tree. That is a creator's reading of a test build, and the third weapons are not in the demo.

Which Berserker weapon to start with

Azrial's advice in his demo guide of Oct 12, 2026: Axe and shield mixes defense with bleed and disrupting enemies, while the Warhammer is about heavier attacks and finding the moment to land them. He suggests the Berserker to players who want weight behind their hits, with a warning that its timing can be tricky for players new to PvP. In the demo, the Berserker carries both weapons and swaps between them in Combat.

Gender

The Berserker is male only at Early Access, as Ser Medieval reported from the Network Test on Sep 14, 2026; XL Games has not stated each class's gender in writing. XL Games says classes stay gender-locked at Early Access and that more gender options will come later, "starting with select classes", with no date as of Oct 20, 2026. See Character Creation and Gender Lock.
