Trade Runs

Trade runs return in ArcheAge Chronicles: you make trade goods and haul them by Trade Wagon to sell in other regions, alone or with others. Trading is in Early Access but not in the Steam Next Fest demo, and XL Games has not described the risks, routes or PvP rules of a run, as of Oct 20, 2026.

Trade runs return in ArcheAge Chronicles: you make trade goods, load them onto a wagon and drive them to another region to sell, alone or with other players. XL Games' own 30-second clip "Trade Run Gameplay" (Sep 4, 2026) shows it in captured play: a convoy of covered wagons rolls along a forest road with the HUD and quest text on screen, the region title "Camas Forest" appears, and the clip ends on an overturned cart. Its description reads "The Trade Wagon is ready to roll." Trading is on the Early Access content list, but it is not in the free Demo (Oct 19 to 26, 2026). How a run works in detail (which goods, which routes, what you earn, what can go wrong and whether other players can stop you) has not been described by XL Games, as of Oct 20, 2026. Trade belongs to the life skills that make up the non-combat half of ArcheAge Chronicles.

What XL Games has said about trade

Trade has been promised since the game was still called ArcheAge 2. In Kakao Games' interview video of Nov 18, 2022, Jake Song, then head of XL Games, says (in Korean) that trade was one of the original ArcheAge's most enjoyed activities but also had many problems, and that ArcheAge 2 would offer trade you can do alone, trade by team, and trade by raids with many players. Song left XL Games in early 2025 and does not lead the game; the raid-sized version of trade did not survive into later plans (below).

XL Games' later statements, in order:

  • Oct 10, 2024, the developer diary "Our Vision" ([S2]): "We've retained familiar trade mechanisms from the past, such as using wagons, carts, and creating trade goods to sell in different regions, but with a twist. New variables will be designed into the transportation process." It also says "Trade is an essential mechanism for supplying the materials needed for crafting," and that "Revitalized trade runs will involve elements of risk and reward, where PvP encounters become more likely as the stakes of the journey increase with higher levels."
  • Aug 1, 2025, XL Games' Q&A with Wccftech: "You can still take on trade missions solo or with others, and transporting goods across regions remains an important part of the economy," but the scale is now suited to action combat and solo play, "rather than being built around large raid groups or PvP blockades."
  • Sep 7, 2026, the official tour video: "It's time to test your wagon driving skills."
  • Oct 1, 2026: trade is not in the Steam Next Fest demo.
  • Oct 4, 2026, the PvP post ([S13]): trade runs through PvP channels and guilds holding trade posts, as ideas only.
  • Oct 20, 2026, the Steam store's Early Access FAQ lists "trading" among Early Access content, and the store page promises "thrilling trading runs" through "territories fraught with peril".

The Trade Wagon

The Trade Wagon is the one trade vehicle XL Games has shown. In "A Quick Look at Auroria" (Sep 7, 2026) the developers say "It's time to test your wagon driving skills. Housing, crafting, trade. This is ArcheAge DNA," over captured play: a character walks into a trading post and opens a trade-goods screen, then drives a loaded wagon along a forest road at night and through a sunlit valley by day, and finishes at a second trading post's trade screen. Together with the convoy in the "Trade Run Gameplay" clip, that is everything shown of a run so far. XL Games has not said how fast a wagon is, how much it carries, whether it can be damaged or destroyed, or whether other players can ride along, as of Oct 20, 2026. Mounts and ships are not confirmed at all; see Mounts and Sailing.

Trade and crafting

Trade feeds crafting in ArcheAge Chronicles. XL Games' 2024 diary calls trade "an essential mechanism for supplying the materials needed for crafting" and says crafting "plays a crucial role in character growth". Ham's Jul 31, 2025 letter ([S3]) adds that crafting is "tied into your character's growth and the player economy in real ways". The Steam store pairs the two: "Learn new recipes, trade with other players, and build a pioneer society together." Which goods are traded and how they are made is not yet described; gathering, processing and recipes are on Crafting and Life Skills.

Trade runs and PvP

Whether other players can attack you on a trade run is not decided. In XL Games' Oct 4, 2026 post "Let's Talk PvP in ArcheAge Chronicles", Creative Director Jay Lee writes that talks about more structured PvP "end up coming back to trade. Think trade runs through PvP channels, and guilds fighting to take and hold trade posts," and adds: "This is early planning and still needs a lot of tweaking, so please don't read it as a promise." Azrial's PvP breakdown (Oct 19, 2026) reads the same passage as an idea still being explored and hopes it grows into guild territory to fight over. Today PvP happens only in PvP channels that you choose at a Nui Statue, and standard channels have no PvP at all (see PvP). The 2024 diary's plan, more PvP risk as runs reach higher levels, has not been repeated since.

The player economy and an auction house

XL Games calls the player economy central but has not described how it works. Its 2025 answer to Massively OP: "crafting, gathering, and the player-driven economy are absolutely central to ArcheAge Chronicles." No auction house, marketplace, player shop, currency exchange or trading-post price system has been announced, as of Oct 20, 2026; the store says only that you can "trade with other players". In his Network Test review (Sep 14, 2026), Azrial recalls XL Games talking about moving goods between regions with carts and wagons and says the test area's side paths and settlements made him imagine how hauling something valuable would turn travel into play. That is his expectation, not a description of the system: trade was not in the Network Test either.

The original's trade packs

In the original ArcheAge (2013), a trade run meant carrying a trade pack from one point to another. Engadget's summary of the original's trade preview (Aug 11, 2014) explains that a pack slows you down and keeps you off gliders and World Gates, that "The further you transport a pack, the more rewards you receive," and that carrying one made you a target for "marauders, pirates, and scavengers alike." Jay Lee's Oct 4, 2026 post nods to that history: "Anyone who played the original ArcheAge remembers how tense a trade run could get." XL Games has not used the words "trade pack" for Chronicles, and nothing like the original's sea routes is announced, because ships are not confirmed. The series' history is on ArcheAge Series, and what else changed is on Differences From ArcheAge.

Frequently asked questions

Are there trade runs in ArcheAge Chronicles? Yes. ArcheAge Chronicles has trade runs: you make trade goods and haul them by Trade Wagon to sell in other regions, alone or with others, and trading is on the Early Access content list.

Are there trade packs in ArcheAge Chronicles? XL Games speaks of "trade goods", wagons and carts, not trade packs. Whether a trade good is carried on your back as in the original ArcheAge has not been said, as of Oct 20, 2026.

Is trading in the ArcheAge Chronicles demo? No. XL Games said on Oct 1, 2026 that housing and trade are not in the Steam Next Fest demo (Oct 19 to 26, 2026); they come with Early Access.

Can I be robbed on a trade run in ArcheAge Chronicles? That is not decided. XL Games has floated trade runs through PvP channels as an idea, "please don't read it as a promise" (Oct 4, 2026), and players cannot attack you in standard channels.

Does ArcheAge Chronicles have an auction house? No auction house or player market has been announced for ArcheAge Chronicles, as of Oct 20, 2026. The Steam store says only that you can trade with other players.

Can I do trade runs solo in ArcheAge Chronicles? Yes. XL Games said in Aug 2025 that you can take on trade missions in ArcheAge Chronicles solo or with others, and that runs are no longer built around large raid groups.
