Crafting and Life Skills
ArcheAge Chronicles' life skills are hunting, gathering, farming, housing and crafting: you gather, process and craft what you need, learn recipes (some found in chests), and crafting feeds your character's growth and the player economy. The demo has gathering and potion cooking; XL Games has not published a list of professions, as of Oct 20, 2026.
ArcheAge Chronicles' life skills are hunting, gathering, housing, farming and crafting, in the words of its Steam page: you gather materials, process them, learn recipes and craft what you need, and XL Games says crafting is "tied into your character's growth and the player economy in real ways". XL Games has not published a list of professions, as of Oct 20, 2026. The fullest look so far comes from players: in his Network Test review (Sep 14, 2026), Ser Medieval says the test gave only a brief introduction to crafting potions, but that he saw the crafting tree and "all the professions" in it, naming blacksmithing, cooking and tailoring, with housing alongside. In the free Demo (Oct 19 to 26, 2026) players gather, skin animals and cook healing potions; housing and trade come only with Early Access. Life skills are the non-combat half of ArcheAge Chronicles, and they connect to Trade Runs and Housing and Farming.

Gathering
Gathering in ArcheAge Chronicles is done by hand in the open world as you travel. Azrial lists what he did in the Network Test (Sep 14, 2026): "chopping trees, gathering berries, collecting corals, skinning animals while traveling around", and calls it "only a tiny look" at the full system. MeinMMO's demo review (Oct 20, 2026) found the same set in the demo, woodcutting, mining with a pickaxe, skinning wild animals and berry fields, but criticized it: "the axe swings right through the branch and offers barely any audiovisual feedback." Ingredients also grow underwater: Kyunghyang Games picked a mushroom from the water in the demo and notes it is a potion ingredient. Hunting is on the store's list of life skills; how it differs from skinning what you kill is not explained. XL Games' Oct 15, 2026 progression post adds that field bosses drop crafting materials "you can't get anywhere else" (see Bosses).
Processing and crafting
Crafting follows a gather, process and craft loop. XL Games' tour "A Quick Look at Auroria" (Sep 7, 2026) puts it in one line, "Not everything in Auroria is about combat. Gather, process, and craft what you need," while the player runs through fields to a camp and brews a red potion at a cauldron, with a crafting window on screen (0:51). Potion cooking is the one recipe chain every demo player meets: MeinMMO learned to cook healing potions through quests and passed cooking stations beside berry fields at a pirate camp. Crafting stations exist for other work too: Ser Medieval saw houses and crafting stations in the Network Test's tree, and a blacksmith who tempers equipment (below). Whether you can craft complete weapons and armor, and how crafted gear compares with dropped gear, has not been described, as of Oct 20, 2026.
Recipes
Recipes are learned, and some are found. The Steam page says "Learn new recipes, trade with other players, and build a pioneer society together." In "How Progression Works" (Oct 15, 2026) Global Project Manager Don writes that treasure chests "can hold gear, rare crafting recipes, and other things that help you along," and that each chest opens once per character, so no one races you to it. XL Games' Aug 2025 Q&A with Wccftech lists "unlocking rare recipes" among endgame goals beside "mastering your trade". How many recipes exist and whether they are traded between players is not known.
Tempering
A tempering option for gear was seen in the Network Test. Ser Medieval reports that while talking to the blacksmith "there was the ability to temper equipment", and asks that failed tempering only downgrade gear, never destroy it, since breakable gear could invite a protective item in a shop later. XL Games has not described tempering, its odds or its costs, as of Oct 20, 2026. On the shop question, Executive Producer Yongjin Ham said on Oct 7, 2026 that there will be no paid shop when Early Access starts and that the game will never sell items that make you stronger or speed growth; see Price and Pay to Win.
Crafting, growth and the economy
Life skills are meant as a way to play, not a chore beside combat. In XL Games' video "The Direction the Devs Are Taking" (Oct 7, 2026), Ham says (in Korean, with English subtitles) that Auroria is fun alone but offers more to do with others, that you can enjoy life skills and crafting or set out into the world, and that players should find what they like and spend their time their own way. XL Games' 2024 developer diary ties the systems together: crafting "plays a crucial role in character growth", and trade is "an essential mechanism for supplying the materials needed for crafting". Ham's Jul 31, 2025 letter promises crafting "tied into your character's growth and the player economy in real ways". How that works in numbers (crafted gear, a market, prices) is on the list of things not yet described; the player economy is covered on Trade Runs.
What the demo has and lacks
The Steam Next Fest demo has gathering, skinning and potion cooking around Diamond Shores. XL Games' Oct 1, 2026 announcement says "Some life content, including housing and trade, will not be available in this demo," and that nothing carries over to Early Access. Early Access adds housing, crafting and trading across three regions (Diamond Shores, Gylden Ruins and Astron Plains), according to the Steam store's Early Access FAQ.
What is coming
The Early Access FAQ lists "Expand life skills and community content" among the plans before full release, with a roadmap promised. XL Games' 2025 answer to Massively OP said farming, trading "and other lifeskills" are "part of the core gameplay loop" and that specific tradeskills would be shared later; as of Oct 20, 2026, no complete list has been. Fishing, a named cooking or alchemy profession and a crafting level system have not been announced.
